Job Description
An Engineering Manager role focused on leading and developing a distributed engineering team responsible for core components of Ubuntu, including system startup, compilers, language runtimes, networking, and storage, operating at the intersection of open source and enterprise technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and grow a team of distributed engineers
- Demonstrate sound engineering principles through active and hands-on leadership
- Plan, estimate, and execute engineering tasks
- Collaborate with product management to define vision and strategy for Ubuntu
- Drive the adoption of the latest software development practices
- Design and promote strong engineering and organizational practices
- Foster a healthy, collaborative engineering culture
- Coordinate with other teams to ensure alignment on product architecture and roadmaps
Requirements
- Extensive experience working with Linux distributions and packaging technologies such as deb, rpm, or other packaging systems.
- Demonstrated experience managing or leading a team of software engineers.
- High quality software engineering knowledge in one or more of the following areas: Linux system architecture, boot process, Java, GCC, Python, Rust, Go toolchains, ARM, or RISC-V.
- Engagement with open source communities and processes.
