Job Description
A Project Manager at Canonical is responsible for overseeing the delivery of complex customer-facing projects related to Ubuntu embedded systems across various devices, ensuring successful project execution, managing cross-cultural teams, and maintaining strong client relationships in a remote, global environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage and oversee the complete lifecycle of complex customer-facing projects related to Ubuntu embedded systems
- Coordinate between engineering teams and customers to ensure successful project delivery
- Develop and maintain project statements of work, schedules, and plans
- Ensure projects are delivered within scope, time, and resources, managing risks and mitigation plans
- Communicate regularly with clients and internal stakeholders on project status and issues
- Manage delivery schedules of third-party deliverables and technical issues to meet project goals
- Build and maintain relationships with partners, vendors, OEMs, ODMs, and internal teams
- Support engineering efforts such as custom board enablement and Ubuntu image delivery
- Identify and address engineering requests outside existing contracts
- Advocate for appropriate Canonical technologies to customers
- Work across different time zones and support non-traditional hours as needed
Requirements
- Solid project management experience in delivering engineering services to customers managing software development teams and field engineers
- Extensive experience successfully managing projects with cross-cultural and multi-continent internal and external project resources, preferably with resources in Asia, Europe, and the Americas
- Educational degree preferably in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math
- Good knowledge of Linux and the wider Open Source Software community, and understanding of computer architecture
- Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, in English
- Strong leader and problem solver with extensive experience building successful internal and external partnerships and effective working relationships with demanding project sponsors in complex organizational environments
- PMP, PMI, or PRINCE2 Practitioner Certification preferred
- Ability to work non-standard work hours in support of a worldwide sales and project team
- Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events
