Job Description

A Project Manager at Canonical is responsible for overseeing the delivery of complex customer-facing projects related to Ubuntu embedded systems across various devices, ensuring successful project execution, managing cross-cultural teams, and maintaining strong client relationships in a remote, global environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and oversee the complete lifecycle of complex customer-facing projects related to Ubuntu embedded systems
  • Coordinate between engineering teams and customers to ensure successful project delivery
  • Develop and maintain project statements of work, schedules, and plans
  • Ensure projects are delivered within scope, time, and resources, managing risks and mitigation plans
  • Communicate regularly with clients and internal stakeholders on project status and issues
  • Manage delivery schedules of third-party deliverables and technical issues to meet project goals
  • Build and maintain relationships with partners, vendors, OEMs, ODMs, and internal teams
  • Support engineering efforts such as custom board enablement and Ubuntu image delivery
  • Identify and address engineering requests outside existing contracts
  • Advocate for appropriate Canonical technologies to customers
  • Work across different time zones and support non-traditional hours as needed

Requirements

  • Solid project management experience in delivering engineering services to customers managing software development teams and field engineers
  • Extensive experience successfully managing projects with cross-cultural and multi-continent internal and external project resources, preferably with resources in Asia, Europe, and the Americas
  • Educational degree preferably in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math
  • Good knowledge of Linux and the wider Open Source Software community, and understanding of computer architecture
  • Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, in English
  • Strong leader and problem solver with extensive experience building successful internal and external partnerships and effective working relationships with demanding project sponsors in complex organizational environments
  • PMP, PMI, or PRINCE2 Practitioner Certification preferred
  • Ability to work non-standard work hours in support of a worldwide sales and project team
  • Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events
