Job Description
A Project Manager at Canonical is responsible for overseeing the delivery of complex customer-facing projects involving Ubuntu embedded systems across various devices, ensuring successful project execution, stakeholder communication, and technical coordination in a remote, global environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage large, complex customer-facing projects throughout their entire lifecycle
- Coordinate delivery of Ubuntu images on various devices including robots, IoT devices, PCs, and automotive systems
- Act as the primary liaison between engineering teams and customers to ensure project success
- Develop and maintain project statements of work, schedules, and plans
- Ensure projects are delivered on time, within scope, and within resources
- Identify and mitigate project risks and technical issues
- Communicate regularly with clients and internal stakeholders on project status
- Manage third-party deliverables and coordinate with external vendors and partners
- Support custom engineering requests outside existing contracts
- Advocate for appropriate Canonical technologies to customers
Requirements
- Solid project management experience in delivering engineering services to customers managing software development teams and field engineers
- Extensive experience successfully managing projects with cross-cultural and multi-continent internal and external project resources, preferably with resources in Asia, Europe, and the Americas
- Educational degree preferably in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math
- Good knowledge of Linux and the wider Open Source Software community, and understanding of computer architecture
- Excellent communications skills, both verbal and written, in English
- Strong leader and problem solver with extensive experience building successful internal and external partnerships and effective working relationships with demanding project sponsors in complex organizational environments
- Ability to work non-standard work hours in support of a worldwide sales and project team
- Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events
- Ability to manage projects through their complete life cycle and ensure that the overall goals for both Canonical and the client are met
- Experience in successfully delivering engineering professional services for assigned projects
- Experience working with engineering teams on custom board enablement and delivery of Ubuntu images to customers
- Ability to develop project statements of work, draft and maintain project-specific schedules and project plans
- Experience obtaining client agreement to the project schedule and work items
- Experience ensuring projects are delivered within the time, resources, scope, and expectations
- Experience managing project risk mitigation and plans
- Ability to drive technical issues to reach desired delivery outcomes
- Experience maintaining daily and weekly communication with clients and internal stakeholders
- Experience managing delivery schedule of critical third-party deliverables for projects
- Ability to keep management informed of the status of assigned projects
- Experience identifying custom engineering requests outside existing business contracts
- Willingness to support different time zones and work non-traditional hours as required
