Job Description
This role involves developing and maintaining scalable, high-quality web services and microservices in Go and Python, focusing on API design, performance, resilience, and DevOps practices within a globally distributed team at Canonical, the publisher of Ubuntu.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable, high-quality REST API microservices in Go and Python
- Write tests to validate software behavior and ensure robustness
- Build and maintain fault-tolerant, reliable applications and services
- Collaborate with a globally distributed team on software architecture and API design
- Debug issues and produce high-quality solutions
- Contribute to technical documentation
- Engage in proactive security analysis and performance profiling
- Implement multi-region service delivery for resilience and performance
- Participate in technical discussions and knowledge sharing within teams and communities
Requirements
- An undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling narrative about an alternative path demonstrating relevant skills and experience.
- Proficiency in Python and/or Go programming languages.
- Experience with writing modern, maintainable software.
- History of developing and maintaining software that is scalable and reliable.
- Experience with relational and non-relational database systems.
- Continuous integration and continuous delivery experience.
- Experience with systems programming or scalable web services.
- Professional written and spoken English language skills.
- Experience with Linux Debian or Ubuntu operating systems.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.
- Result-oriented approach with a personal drive to meet commitments.
- Ability to travel twice a year for company events, each up to two weeks.
- Ability to write high-quality, well-designed, and robust software that works at scale.
- Ability to design APIs and software architecture for collegial review.
- Ability to write tests that validate software behavior.
- Ability to debug issues and produce high-quality solutions to resolve them.
- Ability to contribute to technical documentation.
- Ability to collaborate proactively with a globally distributed team.
- Display technical leadership internally and within external communities.
