Job Description
This role involves designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, high-quality web services and microservices in Go and Python, with a focus on API design, performance, security, and DevOps practices, supporting Ubuntu's global infrastructure and community.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable, high-quality microservices and APIs in Go and Python
- Write tests to validate software behavior and ensure robustness
- Build and maintain fault-tolerant, reliable distributed systems
- Collaborate with global teams on software architecture, code reviews, and technical documentation
- Debug issues and implement solutions to improve system performance and resilience
Requirements
- An undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling narrative about an alternative path demonstrating relevant skills and experience.
- Proficiency in Python and/or Go programming languages.
- Experience with writing modern, maintainable software.
- Experience with relational and non-relational database systems.
- Continuous integration and continuous delivery experience.
- Experience with systems programming or scalable web services.
- Professional written and spoken English language skills.
- Experience with Linux Debian or Ubuntu operating systems.
- Ability to write high-quality, well-designed, and robust software that works at scale.
- Ability to design APIs and software architecture for collegial review.
- Ability to write tests that validate software behavior.
- Experience in building and maintaining reliable, fault-tolerant applications and services.
- Ability to debug issues and produce high-quality solutions to resolve them.
- Experience with technical documentation and collaboration across teams.
- Willingness to work from home with the ability to travel twice a year for company events, up to two weeks each time.
- Ability to display technical leadership internally and within external communities.
- Result-oriented mindset with a personal drive to meet commitments.
- Ability to contribute to technical discussions, contribute to, and collaborate across teams.
