Job Description
This role involves designing, developing, and maintaining scalable, high-quality web services and microservices in Go and Python, with a focus on API design, performance, security, and DevOps practices, supporting Ubuntu's global infrastructure and community.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain scalable, high-quality software and APIs
- Write and review tests to validate software behavior
- Build and ensure fault-tolerance and reliability of applications and services
- Collaborate with a globally distributed team on technical design and implementation
- Debug issues and produce high-quality solutions
- Contribute to technical documentation and best practices
- Engage in proactive security analysis and performance profiling
- Participate in technical discussions, reviews, and community collaboration
Requirements
- An undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling narrative about an alternative path demonstrating relevant skills and experience.
- Proficiency in Python and/or Go programming languages.
- Experience with writing modern, maintainable software.
- History of developing and maintaining software that is scalable and reliable.
- Experience with relational and non-relational database systems.
- Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) practices.
- Experience with systems programming or building scalable web services.
- Professional written and spoken English communication skills.
- Experience working with Linux Debian or Ubuntu operating systems.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.
- Passion, thoughtfulness, and self-motivation.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Result-oriented mindset with a personal drive to meet commitments.
- Ability to travel twice a year for company events, with each trip up to two weeks.
- Ability to write high-quality, well-designed, and robust software that works at scale.
- Ability to design APIs and software architecture for review and collaboration.
- Ability to write tests that validate software behavior.
- Ability to debug issues and produce high-quality solutions.
- Ability to contribute to technical documentation.
