This role involves leading product development and strategy for various open source software products at Canonical, overseeing the entire product lifecycle, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and mentoring product managers to deliver innovative solutions that advance open source technology globally.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the product development lifecycle, setting priorities and goals for products
Collaborate with cross-functional teams such as engineering, design, marketing, and sales
Conduct market research, analyze industry trends, and gather customer feedback to identify opportunities
Communicate product vision, status updates, and key decisions to ensure alignment
Conduct usability testing, analyze user feedback, and iterate on products to improve user experience
Develop go-to-market strategies, create product documentation, and provide training in collaboration with marketing, sales, and support teams
Guide and mentor a team of product managers to ensure their growth and project success
Oversee multiple product lines, ensuring strategy and execution consistency
Facilitate collaboration and resolve conflicts within teams and across departments
Requirements
Experience in leading the product development lifecycle, including reviewing priorities and goals for the product
Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams such as engineering, design, marketing, and sales
Experience conducting market research, analyzing industry trends, and gathering customer feedback to identify opportunities
Ability to communicate product vision, status updates, and key decisions to ensure alignment and manage expectations
Experience conducting usability testing, analyzing user feedback, and iterating on the product to improve user experience
Ability to collaborate with marketing, sales, and support teams to develop go-to-market strategies, create product documentation, and provide training
Experience guiding and mentoring a team of product managers, helping them grow in their roles and succeed in their projects
Experience overseeing the work of multiple product lines, ensuring consistency in strategy and execution across teams
Ability to facilitate collaboration and resolve conflicts within teams and across departments
Exceptional academic results at high school and university levels
Understanding of Linux and the wider open source software community
Understanding of computer architecture, application development, datacenters, cloud, or devices
Passion to write about technologies and the tech landscape
A strong work ethic and personal interests aligned with the open source movement
Curiosity and a habit of continuous learning
A strong sense of ownership
Problem solving skills and the ability to innovate
Outstanding communication skills in English, both verbal and written
For senior positions: Proven experience in product management within the software industry
For senior positions: Proven experience in managing and mentoring product managers or cross-functional teams
Ability to manage multiple projects or product lines while maintaining focus on key priorities
Demonstrated leadership in aligning diverse teams and driving consensus around product strategies
Willingness to travel internationally up to 4 times a year for company events lasting up to two weeks
