Job Description

A Linux devices software engineer at Canonical works on developing and maintaining mission-critical software for the SnapD platform, focusing on containers, security, telemetry, and device management to ensure robust and secure software delivery across Linux devices worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

Collaborate proactively with a distributed team to develop and improve software features
Write high-quality code for new features and bug fixes in mission-critical systems
Debug Linux system-level issues and produce reliable solutions
Review code contributions from other engineers to ensure quality and maintainability
Discuss ideas and collaborate on finding effective solutions for system robustness and security

Requirements

Professional software development experience using Go, Python, C, or C
General knowledge and experience with Linux as a developer platform, including Linux system-level fundamentals such as cgroups, namespaces, and apparmor
A Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Computer Science, STEM, or a similar field
The role requires the ability to collaborate proactively with a distributed team, write high-quality code to create new features, debug Linux system-level issues, review code produced by other engineers, and discuss ideas to find good solutions
Commitment to software testing, code reviews, and maintaining high-quality, maintainable code
The ability to work from home with the potential for global travel for up to two weeks, twice a year
An obsession with quality and performance, especially for work at the heart of the operating system
Interest in the software publishing and consumption experience
Passion for open source software development
