Job Description

Canonical is seeking Golang engineers to design, develop, and maintain high-performance, secure open-source software components for Ubuntu and related systems in a fully remote, distributed environment. The role involves collaboration, troubleshooting, and contributing to innovative open-source solutions across various projects.

Key Responsibilities

Design and implement well-tested and documented software in Go
Debug and fix issues encountered by users
Participate in code and architectural reviews
Collaborate with community and colleagues on technical specifications
Seek improvements to engineering and operations practices
Deploy and operate services developed by the team in some cases
Contribute to the success of products through technical advocacy

Requirements

Experience designing and writing high-quality Golang software on Linux
Experience with and passion for Linux at the system level
An undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling narrative about an alternative path
Experience in designing, debugging, and fixing issues encountered by users of software
Experience participating in engineering processes through code and architectural reviews
Experience collaborating with community and colleagues on technical specifications
Experience deploying and operating services developed by the team in some cases
Experience contributing to the success of a product through technical advocacy
Experience with Linux Debian or Ubuntu preferred
Professional written and spoken English skills
Ability to deliver well-tested and documented software in Go
Ability to seek improvements to engineering and operations practices
Strong motivation to get things done well in a fully remote and distributed environment
Extensive personal experience with Linux, with exposure to different versions of Linux
Ability to participate in code reviews and architectural reviews
Ability to work independently, be well-organized, self-starting, and deliver to schedule
Professional manner interacting with colleagues, partners, and community
Result-oriented with a personal drive to meet commitments
Ability to travel twice a year, for company events up to two weeks each
