Job Description
Canonical is seeking Golang engineers to design, develop, and maintain high-performance, secure software components for Ubuntu and related open-source projects in a fully remote, distributed environment. The role involves collaboration, troubleshooting, and contributing to innovative open-source solutions across various systems and platforms.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement well-tested and documented software in Go
- Debug and fix issues encountered by users
- Participate in code and architectural reviews
- Collaborate with community and colleagues on technical specifications
- Seek improvements to engineering and operations practices
- Deploy and operate services developed by the team in some cases
- Contribute to the success of products through technical advocacy
Requirements
- Experience designing and writing high-quality Golang software on Linux
- Experience with and passion for Linux at the system level
- Experience troubleshooting, debugging, and fixing issues encountered by users
- Experience participating in engineering processes through code and architectural reviews
- Experience collaborating with community and colleagues on technical specifications
- Experience seeking improvements to engineering and operations practices
- Experience deploying and operating services developed by the team in some cases
- Experience contributing to the success of a product through technical advocacy
- An exceptional academic track record from both high school and university
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling narrative about an alternative path
- Drive and a track record of going above-and-beyond expectations
- Well-organized, self-starting, and able to deliver to schedule
- Professional manner interacting with colleagues, partners, and community
- Experience with Linux Debian or Ubuntu preferred
- Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability
- Passion, thoughtfulness, and self-motivation
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Result-oriented, with a personal drive to meet commitments
- Ability to travel twice a year, for company events up to two weeks each
