Job Description

Canonical is seeking a Web Engineering Manager to lead and support web development teams in delivering reliable, scalable, and user-friendly software products, primarily focusing on web technologies and Flutter, while fostering team growth and technical excellence in a remote, globally distributed environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and support web engineering teams to ensure growth, valuable work, and team satisfaction
  • Contribute to technical delivery through design, implementation, testing, and documentation of web software
  • Participate in code and architectural reviews to maintain engineering standards
  • Collaborate with community and colleagues on technical specifications
  • Deploy, operate, and maintain services developed by the team
  • Provide technical advocacy to contribute to product success
  • Estimate work, set goals, and ensure timely delivery of projects
  • Influence engineering culture and facilitate strategy and execution

Requirements

  • Demonstrate sound engineering principles by directly contributing to your team s goals
  • Estimate work, set goals, and meet them
  • Design and implement well-tested and documented software in Web technologies or Flutter
  • Debug and fix issues encountered by users
  • Participate in engineering processes through code and architectural reviews
  • Collaborate with community and colleagues on technical specifications
  • Contribute to technical documentation to make it the best of its kind
  • Seek improvements to engineering and operations practices
  • Deploy and operate services developed by the team
  • Contribute to the success of the product through technical advocacy
  • Possess knowledge and passion for web and software development
  • Hold an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or have a compelling narrative about an alternative path
  • Have a drive and a track record of going above and beyond expectations
  • Be well-organized, self-starting, and able to deliver to schedule
  • Have professional manner in interacting with colleagues, partners, and community
  • Experience designing and writing high-quality Web technologies
  • Experience with and passion for Typescript, React, or Flutter
  • Have an eye for accessibility and performance
  • Possess professional written and spoken English skills
  • Experience with Linux Debian or Ubuntu preferred
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability
  • Result-oriented with a personal drive to meet commitments
  • Ability to travel twice a year for company events for up to two weeks each
