Job Description
Canonical is seeking a Web Engineering Manager to lead and support web development teams in delivering reliable, scalable, and user-friendly software products, primarily focusing on web technologies and Flutter, while fostering team growth and technical excellence in a remote, globally distributed environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support web engineering teams to ensure growth, valuable work, and team satisfaction
- Contribute to technical delivery through design, implementation, testing, and documentation of web software
- Participate in code and architectural reviews to maintain engineering standards
- Collaborate with community and colleagues on technical specifications
- Deploy, operate, and maintain services developed by the team
- Provide technical advocacy to contribute to product success
- Estimate work, set goals, and ensure timely delivery of projects
- Influence engineering culture and facilitate strategy and execution
Requirements
- Demonstrate sound engineering principles by directly contributing to your team s goals
- Estimate work, set goals, and meet them
- Design and implement well-tested and documented software in Web technologies or Flutter
- Debug and fix issues encountered by users
- Participate in engineering processes through code and architectural reviews
- Collaborate with community and colleagues on technical specifications
- Contribute to technical documentation to make it the best of its kind
- Seek improvements to engineering and operations practices
- Deploy and operate services developed by the team
- Contribute to the success of the product through technical advocacy
- Possess knowledge and passion for web and software development
- Hold an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or have a compelling narrative about an alternative path
- Have a drive and a track record of going above and beyond expectations
- Be well-organized, self-starting, and able to deliver to schedule
- Have professional manner in interacting with colleagues, partners, and community
- Experience designing and writing high-quality Web technologies
- Experience with and passion for Typescript, React, or Flutter
- Have an eye for accessibility and performance
- Possess professional written and spoken English skills
- Experience with Linux Debian or Ubuntu preferred
- Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability
- Result-oriented with a personal drive to meet commitments
- Ability to travel twice a year for company events for up to two weeks each
