Job Description
This role involves leading and managing a global engineering team to develop and enhance cloud-init, an open source project for customizing cloud instances, while collaborating with various stakeholders and fostering a strong, innovative engineering culture at Canonical.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and lead a globally distributed engineering team
- Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, and career development
- Define the vision and strategy for Ubuntu and the cloud-init team
- Coordinate with other teams, stakeholders, and the open source community to plan and deliver features
- Oversee the quality and release of Ubuntu Server images and features
- Participate in engineering processes such as code and architectural reviews
- Engage with external partners and community to improve cloud-init
- Manage expectations with internal teams and external partners
Requirements
- 3 years of experience in leading, managing, coaching and mentoring software developers
- Experience managing distributed teams is a plus
- Experience working in an agile development environment
- Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Computer Science, STEM or similar field
- Strong written and verbal technical communication skills in English
- Experience with a modern GNU Linux distribution, with Debian or Ubuntu preferred
- Practical experience with at least one of Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or Amazon Web Services
