Job Description
Lead and manage a global engineering team responsible for developing and maintaining cloud-init, an open source tool for customizing cloud instances, while collaborating with open source communities, cloud providers, and internal teams to drive product evolution and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and lead a globally distributed engineering team
- Develop talent through coaching, mentoring, and career development
- Define the vision and strategy for Ubuntu and the team in collaboration with Product Management
- Manage expectations with engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders
- Promote and implement modern, agile software development practices
- Foster a collaborative and high-quality engineering culture
- Participate in engineering processes such as code and architectural reviews
- Oversee the quality and delivery of Ubuntu Server features
- Engage with the open source community, partners, and internal teams
Requirements
- 3 years of experience in leading, managing, coaching and mentoring software developers
- Experience managing distributed teams is a plus
- Experience working in an agile development environment
- Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Computer Science, STEM or a similar field
- Strong written and verbal technical communication skills in English
- Experience with a modern GNU Linux distribution, with Debian or Ubuntu preferred
- Practical experience with at least one of Microsoft Azure, Google Cloud, or Amazon Web Services
