Job Description
A Software Engineering Manager role leading the Ubuntu Desktop Apps team, responsible for guiding the development of modern desktop applications that enhance the Ubuntu user experience, ensuring high standards of quality, performance, and security while collaborating across teams and the open source community.
Key Responsibilities
- Guide architecture and technical direction for Ubuntu desktop applications
- Ensure integration with the Ubuntu platform, Snap ecosystem, and system services
- Participate in design reviews and technical decision-making
- Lead and support a team of engineers, mentoring and fostering collaboration
- Plan and deliver features across multiple release cycles
- Improve CI/CD pipelines, testing practices, and release quality
- Collaborate with product, design, and engineering teams to deliver user experiences
- Engage with the open source community and contribute to project development
Requirements
- An exceptional academic track record from both high school and university, or a compelling narrative about your alternative path.
- Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or equivalent experience and skills demonstrated through a compelling narrative.
- Strong background in software engineering and system design.
- Experience building and shipping graphical applications.
- Experience leading engineering projects or teams.
- Expertise in Flutter and Dart, with experience in Go or Rust considered a plus.
- Experience working with modern Linux desktop technologies such as Wayland, D-Bus, Systemd, or GNOME.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a globally distributed engineering team.
- Ability to travel twice a year, for company events up to two weeks each.
