Canonical is seeking a technical engineering manager to lead the development of secure, embedded Linux systems for IoT and other fields, overseeing a distributed team of engineers and driving innovation in open source software, Linux, and containerization.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and build a distributed team of engineers through hiring, coaching, mentoring, and career development
Contribute to the design and implementation of Ubuntu Core system software on various CPU architectures
Prioritize requests, plan the roadmap, and ensure timely delivery of software goals
Advocate for and implement modern, agile software development practices
Collaborate with stakeholders, other engineering teams, and senior management to set expectations and coordinate efforts
Participate in shaping engineering culture and organizational practices
Demonstrate sound engineering principles through direct technical contributions
Requirements
Demonstrated competencies in embedded software development
Strong skills in Golang, C and Shell
A solid understanding of Linux and a modern GNU Linux distribution, Debian or Ubuntu preferred
Experience leading or building a distributed team of engineers through hiring, coaching, mentoring, feedback and career development
Ability to demonstrate sound engineering principles by directly contributing toward your team’s goals
Experience coaching and mentoring team members with hands-on career development
Ability to effectively set and manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management, and external stakeholders
Experience advocating and advancing modern, agile software development practices and helping develop and evangelize great engineering and organizational practices
Ability to contribute to a healthy, collaborative engineering culture in line with company values
Active participation in the leadership team and collaboration with other leaders in the organization
Solid experience working in an agile development environment
An exceptional academic track record from both high school and university
An undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling narrative about an alternative chosen path
Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills
