Canonical is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a team focused on developing and managing open source Ceph distributed storage solutions, emphasizing technical leadership, team development, and innovative software engineering practices in a remote, global environment.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and manage a globally distributed team building Ceph storage solutions
Develop team members through coaching, mentoring, and feedback
Contribute to technical goals by directly participating in software development
Establish and maintain sound software architecture, quality, testing, and documentation practices
Set project schedules, manage expectations, and facilitate agile development processes
Promote a culture of quality, engineering excellence, and collaboration
Collaborate with leadership and other teams to align on strategy and execution
Requirements
Technical leadership experience and a background in software engineering are necessary prerequisites for this role.
Experience in leading, managing, coaching, and mentoring software developers towards delivering timely, high quality software.
Experience operating scale out storage clusters on Linux in production environments, preferably with Ceph.
A software engineering background, preferably with experience in Python and C.
Demonstrated ability to build and manage a globally distributed team of engineers.
Ability to develop team members through coaching, mentoring, and feedback.
Ability to set reasonable schedules based on considered estimates, with feedback loops for improvement.
Ability to set and manage expectations with other engineering teams and external stakeholders.
Experience in advancing modern, agile software development practices.
Knowledge and passion for software development and building products that improve how people operate software and infrastructure everywhere.
Solid experience working in an agile development environment.
