Job Description
An Engineering Manager at Canonical leading a team focused on developing and managing open source Ceph distributed storage solutions, overseeing technical delivery, team growth, and fostering a culture of engineering excellence in a remote, globally distributed environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of a Ceph-focused software-defined storage solution.
- Build and manage a globally distributed engineering team.
- Coach, mentor, and develop team members to enhance their engineering skills.
- Contribute technically to achieve team goals and ensure sound software architecture.
- Set project schedules, manage expectations, and facilitate agile development practices.
- Promote a culture of quality, engineering excellence, and collaboration.
- Collaborate with leadership and other teams to align on strategy and execution.
Requirements
- Technical leadership experience and a background in software engineering are necessary prerequisites for this role.
- Experience operating scale out storage clusters on Linux in production environments, preferably with Ceph.
- Have a software engineering background, preferably with Python and C experience.
- Experience in leading, managing, coaching, and mentoring software developers towards delivering timely, high quality software.
- Solid experience working in an agile development environment.
- Ability to build and manage a globally distributed team of engineers.
- Ability to develop team members through coaching, mentoring, and feedback.
- Demonstrate sound engineering principles by directly contributing toward the team’s goals.
- Set reasonable schedules based on considered estimates, with feedback loops for improvement.
- Set and manage expectations with other engineering teams and external stakeholders.
- Maintain a culture of quality and engineering excellence.
- Work from home with global travel up to 20% for internal and external events.
