Job Description
Canonical is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead a team focused on developing and managing open source Ceph distributed storage solutions, with responsibilities including technical leadership, team development, and ensuring high-quality software delivery in a remote, global environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a team building Ceph-focused software-defined storage solutions
- Develop and mentor team members to enhance their engineering skills
- Contribute to technical goals through direct engineering work and setting sound software architecture
- Establish and oversee project schedules, expectations, and feedback loops
- Promote modern, agile software development practices and a culture of quality and engineering excellence
- Collaborate with other leadership and stakeholders to align on strategy and execution
- Maintain high standards for software quality, testing, and documentation
Requirements
- Technical leadership experience and a background in software engineering are necessary prerequisites for this role.
- Experience in leading, managing, coaching, and mentoring software developers towards delivering timely, high quality software.
- Experience operating scale out storage clusters on Linux in production environments, preferably with Ceph.
- A software engineering background, preferably with experience in Python and C.
- Solid experience working in an agile development environment.
- Ability to set reasonable schedules based on considered estimates, with feedback loops for improvement.
- Ability to build and manage a globally distributed team of engineers.
- Ability to develop team members through coaching, mentoring, and feedback.
- Demonstrated ability to lead, challenge, and develop strong engineers, positively influence culture, facilitate technical delivery, and work on strategy and execution.
- Knowledge and passion about software development and building products that improve how people operate software and infrastructure everywhere.
- Willingness to work from home with the ability to travel globally up to 20% for internal and external events.
