Job Description
Canonical is seeking an Engineering Manager for Ceph Distributed Storage to lead and develop a global team focused on building and maintaining scalable, open source storage solutions, while ensuring technical excellence and fostering a collaborative engineering culture.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a globally distributed team building Ceph-focused software defined storage solutions
- Develop team members through coaching, mentoring, and feedback
- Contribute to technical goals by directly participating in software development
- Establish and oversee project schedules, expectations, and feedback loops
- Collaborate with other engineering teams and external stakeholders to align on strategy and execution
- Maintain best practices in software architecture, quality, testing, and documentation
- Promote a culture of quality, engineering excellence, and collaboration
- Participate in leadership activities and organizational planning
Requirements
- Technical leadership experience and a background in software engineering are necessary prerequisites for this role.
- Experience in leading, managing, coaching, and mentoring software developers towards delivering timely, high quality software.
- Experience operating scale out storage clusters on Linux in production environments, preferably with Ceph.
- A software engineering background, preferably with Python and C experience.
- Solid experience working in an agile development environment.
- Ability to develop and grow team members through coaching, mentoring, and feedback.
- Ability to set reasonable schedules based on considered estimates, with feedback loops for improvement.
- Ability to set and manage expectations with other engineering teams and external stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to lead a team building a Ceph focused software defined storage solution.
- Ability to build and manage a globally distributed team of engineers.
- Ability to demonstrate sound engineering principles by directly contributing toward team goals.
- Knowledge and passion for software development and embracing new technologies.
- Interest in building products that improve how people operate software and infrastructure everywhere.
