Job Description
This role is a technical management position at Canonical, leading a remote engineering team responsible for developing scalable Python and Golang micro-services that support software distribution platforms like the Snap Store and Charmhub.io, with a focus on fostering a healthy engineering culture, ensuring high-quality software delivery, and collaborating across teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a remote engineering team focused on developing Python and Golang micro-services for software distribution.
- Develop and review code, provide architectural leadership, and ensure engineering best practices.
- Facilitate technical delivery, maintain high-quality standards, and optimize performance of scalable SaaS products.
- Mentor, coach, and develop team members to grow their skills and careers.
- Collaborate with other engineering managers, product managers, and architects to create and execute an engineering roadmap.
- Build and maintain clean web service APIs supporting CLI and web clients.
- Promote a healthy, collaborative engineering culture aligned with company values.
- Manage stakeholder expectations and communicate effectively across teams and external partners.
Requirements
- Must have good experience in leading modern, agile software development practices.
- Must have experience in forming a healthy, collaborative engineering culture in line with the company values.
- Must have demonstrative experience of being a role model for sound engineering principles and directly contributing toward your team’s goals.
- Must be willing to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events.
- Must have a track record of mentoring, developing, and growing people.
- Must be knowledgeable and passionate about software development.
- Must be focused on success and the timely delivery of high-quality software.
- Must value and nurture great team culture and spirit.
- Must have experience and commitment to agile development methodologies.
- Must have software development experience in Python.
- Experience in Golang in addition to Python would be a big plus.
- Practical experience with Linux system administration.
- Ability to develop and review code as a leader.
- Ability to build clean web service APIs to support CLI and web frontend clients using Python and optionally Golang.
- Ability to collaborate closely with other engineering managers, product managers, and architects to produce an engineering roadmap with ambitious and achievable goals.
- Fluency in the programming language, architecture, and components that the team uses.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience in forming a healthy, collaborative engineering culture in line with the company values.
