Job Description
A technical management role leading a remote engineering team responsible for developing and maintaining scalable Python and Golang micro-services that support Canonical's global software distribution platforms, with a focus on fostering a healthy engineering culture, ensuring high-quality software delivery, and collaborating across teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage a remote engineering team to develop Python and Golang micro-services for the software distribution engine.
- Develop and review code, provide architectural leadership, and ensure engineering best practices.
- Facilitate technical delivery, maintain high team performance, and promote a healthy engineering culture.
- Collaborate with other teams, product managers, and stakeholders to produce an engineering roadmap with clear goals.
- Mentor and develop team members through coaching, feedback, and career development activities.
- Build and maintain clean web service APIs supporting CLI and web clients.
- Ensure quality, performance, and security standards are met in software development.
Requirements
- Must have good experience in leading modern, agile software development practices.
- Must have experience in forming a healthy, collaborative engineering culture in line with the company values.
- Must have demonstrative experience of being a role model for sound engineering principles and directly contributing toward your team’s goals.
- Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events.
- Must love to mentor, develop and grow people, and have a track record of doing it.
- Must be knowledgeable and passionate about software development.
- Must be focused on success and the timely delivery of high-quality software.
- Must value and nurture great team culture and spirit.
- Must have experience and commitment to agile development methodologies.
- Must have software development experience in Python.
- Experience in Golang in addition to Python would be a big plus.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Practical experience with Linux system administration.
