The Engineering Director at Canonical is responsible for leading multiple engineering teams focused on developing and maintaining internal business systems, data governance solutions, and system integrations to support the company's growth and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities
Lead multiple engineering teams responsible for business systems, data mesh solutions, and integrations.
Develop and mentor engineering managers to uphold Canonical's engineering culture and practices.
Design, implement, and oversee engineering processes, performance management, and team health indicators.
Manage product development roadmaps and ensure timely delivery of engineering projects.
Collaborate with stakeholders and product users to align engineering efforts with business needs.
Expand teams by recruiting and onboarding new talent.
Participate in leadership activities within the Commercial Systems unit and contribute to strategic planning.
Requirements
Proven ability to lead multiple teams of software engineers, ranging from graduates to seniors, and develop engineering managers to maintain Canonical culture in their teams.
Experience in developing and evangelizing engineering practices and processes within engineering teams.
Experience in setting and implementing performance management with performance goals and objectives for direct reports and teams.
Ability to identify and measure indicators of team health and take appropriate actions where needed.
Accountability for product development roadmaps within the teams.
Experience collaborating with stakeholders and product users to ensure successful project delivery.
Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university, or a compelling narrative about an alternative chosen path.
Undergraduate degree in a technical subject or demonstrated equivalent experience in a technical field.
Proven ability to drive multiple teams or large teams of software engineers to deliver outstanding results.
Engineering experience in at least one of the following areas: CRM systems, ERP systems, Python, data engineering governance, or distributed integrations.
Track record of going above-and-beyond expectations to achieve outstanding results.
Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills.
Result-oriented with a personal drive to meet commitments.
Ability to travel internationally twice a year for company events, with each trip lasting up to two weeks.
