The Embedded Linux Field Engineering Manager leads a remote team of engineers in presales and professional services, helping customers design and deliver embedded Linux solutions for IoT and edge computing applications, while fostering technical excellence and team development.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and develop a team of Field engineers in Presales and Professional Services
Solve customer problems by promoting technologies and acting as a trusted advisor
Coach, mentor, and provide career development feedback to team members
Implement disciplined engineering processes and measure team health indicators
Represent the team and product to stakeholders, partners, and customers
Develop and evangelize engineering and organizational practices
Plan and manage progress on goals and projects
Collaborate with leadership as part of the leadership team
Requirements
Location in one of the three Geos (Americas, EMEA, or APAC) to manage a team spanning multiple time zones, as this is a remote role.
Lead and develop a team of Field engineers, ranging from graduate to senior, in the areas of Presales and Professional Services.
Solve customer problems by promoting Canonical technologies and being a trusted advisor.
Manage a small team effectively, including coaching, mentoring, and providing career development feedback.
Identify and measure team health indicators to ensure team effectiveness.
Implement disciplined engineering processes within the team.
Represent the team and product to stakeholders, partners, and customers.
Develop and evangelize great engineering and organizational practices.
Plan and manage progress on agreed goals and projects.
Be an active part of the leadership team, collaborating with other leaders.
Possess an exceptional academic track record from high school and university.
Hold a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
Have extensive embedded Linux experience, including Yocto or other embedded Linux build systems.
Have extensive Linux experience, with a preference for Debian or Ubuntu.
Be fluent in at least one of the following programming or scripting languages: Golang, Python, C, C++, or Rust.
Have the ability to manage a small team effectively.
Have experience with customer engagements.
Possess professional written and spoken English skills.
Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.
