Job Description
The Embedded Linux Field Engineer for Devices IoT at Canonical is responsible for engaging with customers, delivering embedded Linux solutions, and providing technical expertise in low-level Linux development, system debugging, and customer support to expand the company's presence in mission-critical industries.
Key Responsibilities
- Engage with customers during presales to gather requirements and explain technology solutions
- Elaborate and propose embedded Linux solutions to prospective clients
- Participate in the delivery of select projects related to Embedded Linux
- Convey market requirements to internal stakeholders and contribute to solution development
- Act as a customer advocate and trusted advisor to Canonical
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field
- Extensive Linux experience, with a preference for Debian or Ubuntu
- Solid embedded Linux experience, including familiarity with Yocto, Buildroot, or RTOS
- Fluency in at least one of the following programming or scripting languages: Golang, Python, C, C++, or Rust
- Professional written and spoken English in addition to the local language (Japanese for this role), with the ability to speak and write the local language at a professional level
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Result-oriented with the ability to multi-task and meet commitments
- Willingness to travel up to 30% of the time for customer meetings, company events, and conferences
- Experience of low-level Linux boot, BIOS, firmware, and embedded software development methodologies
- Ability to engage customers during presales to gather requirements and explain technology, and participate in project delivery related to Embedded Linux
- Ability to convey market requirements to key stakeholders and participate in the development or refinement of solutions to unlock market potential
- Demonstrated ability to be both a customer advocate and a trusted advisor
- Personal drive to meet commitments and a humble learner and quick study
