Job Description

A Software Engineer for Distributed Systems Testing at Canonical is responsible for developing automated testing infrastructure, validating the reliability and resilience of cloud orchestration tools, and collaborating with a global team to ensure high-quality cloud solutions across diverse environments.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create automated testing approaches and infrastructure for validating reliability, performance, and resilience of cloud orchestration tools and applications
  • Enable engineering teams to develop software with confidence by providing distributed system testing tooling
  • Enhance continuous integration pipelines for deploying and testing cloud-native products
  • Deploy, manage, and debug highly distributed systems on clouds and bare metal
  • Monitor and report on automated testing efforts
  • Collaborate with a globally distributed team

Requirements

  • A solid background in modern test processes and strategies
  • Experience with Python or Go development
  • Strong object-oriented development skills
  • Working knowledge of continuous integration tools such as Jenkins, CircleCI, or GitHub Actions
  • Knowledge of networking technologies and fundamentals
  • Solid understanding of the Linux system architecture
  • Ability to develop and ship modern production-grade web applications (preferred but not mandatory)
  • Ability to operate data platforms, key-value stores, relational or document databases, and event buses (preferred but not mandatory)
  • Data collection and analytics skills for large multidimensional datasets (preferred but not mandatory)
  • Experience with AI ML pipelines (preferred but not mandatory)
  • Experience with cloud technologies such as OpenStack, Kubernetes, Terraform, and AWS (preferred but not mandatory)
  • Willingness to travel internationally 2-4 weeks per year
