A leadership role overseeing the visual design team at Canonical, responsible for maintaining brand consistency, driving innovative design projects across digital and print media, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to enhance user experiences and support the company's open source initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Lead and contribute to the visual design practice supporting brand and site experiences
Ensure consistency across touchpoints by applying and evolving design guidelines
Manage a team of visual designers responsible for brand and site-related work
Drive innovation, set design direction, and maintain quality standards
Review work critically, provide constructive feedback, and support professional growth of team members
Contribute hands-on design work when necessary
Oversee and improve operational workflows and production processes
Collaborate with stakeholders to define and validate project outcomes
Evolve design systems and guidelines to ensure quality and efficiency
Coordinate with design leadership to develop and mature design practices
Foster a collaborative team environment and share work to strengthen organizational culture
Requirements
Experience leading a visual design team responsible for brand and site-related work across an organization.
Proven ability to drive innovation, set direction, maintain quality, and ensure delivery in a visual design context.
Hands-on experience in visual design work, including creating and reviewing marketing campaign assets, data visualization, print, and UI design projects.
Advanced knowledge of visual design principles such as typography, layout, colour, and systems, demonstrating broad experience.
Experience managing complex projects and a team of designers while remaining actively involved in design work.
A portfolio demonstrating excellence in leading design process and execution, especially visually in diverse organizations.
Strong processes understanding and the ability to manage ambiguity, competing priorities, and limited resources, with the ability to switch modes.
Exceptional educational achievement in design or a compelling narrative about an alternative chosen path.
Professional written and spoken English language skills.
Willingness to travel up to 4 times a year for internal events lasting up to two weeks.
