Job Description
A Cloud Field Engineering Manager at Canonical leads and develops a team of cloud solutions architects, working directly with customers to design, deploy, and support open source cloud solutions across public and private cloud environments, while also participating in technical presales and fostering team growth.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop a team of field engineers in presales and professional services.
- Solve customer problems by promoting technologies and acting as a trusted advisor.
- Participate in technical presales activities to support sales goals.
- Manage team performance, provide coaching, mentorship, and career development.
- Represent the team and products to stakeholders, partners, and customers.
- Plan, track, and ensure timely delivery of engineering projects and goals.
- Develop and evangelize engineering and organizational best practices.
- Collaborate with other teams and leadership to align on technical and strategic initiatives.
Requirements
- Experience in leading, coaching, and mentoring engineers, with a passion for developing and growing people.
- Practical knowledge of Linux and networking.
- Knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies, such as Kubernetes, Openstack, AWS, GCP, Azure, Ceph, etc.
- Experience in technical presales activities, including providing technical advice during the sales process.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
- Organizational skills and the ability to ensure the team delivers timely, high-quality results.
- Willingness to travel up to 40% of the time, attending internal company events, external tech events, and customer meetings.
- An exceptional academic track record from high school and, preferably, university.
- Ability to develop engineering talent and represent the team from a technical perspective.
- Experience in deploying, testing, and handing over cloud solutions such as Openstack, MicroCloud, Ceph, Kubernetes, Kubeflow, Spark, PostgreSQL, etc.
- Ability to lead and develop a team of field engineers ranging from graduate to senior level, in presales and professional services.
- Experience in collaborating with external partners and internal teams, providing stakeholder feedback for engineering roadmaps.
- Willingness to actively participate in technical presales to help achieve quarterly goals.
