Job Description

Canonical is seeking a C and Rust Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain high-performance graphics and windowing system components within the Mir stack, contributing to open source display technologies and engaging with a global community of developers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and implement features across the Mir graphics stack
  • Debug, track down, and fix software issues
  • Participate in code and architectural reviews
  • Create and improve tests and performance benchmarks
  • Maintain documentation to enhance developer experience
  • Engage with the open source community and partners
  • Collaborate with a distributed team

Requirements

  • Strong skills in both Rust and C programming languages
  • Minimum of 2 years industry experience in software development
  • Excellent modern C programming skills
  • Excellent Rust programming skills
  • Familiarity with Linux as a development and deployment platform
  • Experience in designing and implementing features across a software stack
  • Ability to assist in debugging, tracking down, and fixing issues
  • Experience participating in engineering processes through code and architectural review
  • Ability to create and improve tests and performance benchmarks to catch issues early
  • Ability to create and maintain documentation to enhance the developer experience
  • Ability to engage with the open source community and commercial partners
  • Ability to collaborate remotely with a diverse set of team members and remain highly motivated, productive, and organized
  • Willingness to travel internationally twice a year for company events up to two weeks long
  • Bachelor’s or equivalent degree in Computer Science, STEM, or similar
