Job Description
The Alliances Field Engineer at Canonical is responsible for supporting and enabling partners and customers to adopt and implement open source technologies like Ubuntu, Kubernetes, and OpenStack in real-world environments, through technical solutions, joint architectures, and partner engagement, all in a remote, global role.
Key Responsibilities
- Support partners in adopting Canonical's open source technologies and solutions.
- Architect and integrate cloud infrastructure solutions such as Kubernetes, OpenStack, Ceph, and Spark in on-premises and public cloud environments.
- Assist partners in designing joint solutions utilizing Canonical products on public clouds and data centers.
- Create and publish reference architectures and perform technical validations with partners.
- Conduct onboarding sessions and workshops to promote Canonical products and solutions.
- Provide expert technical support and well-informed answers to customer and partner inquiries.
- Engage in customer-facing activities including pitching, demonstrating, and understanding customer environments and needs.
Requirements
- Extensive experience with Linux Ubuntu preferred, including experience designing and implementing solutions on top of public or private clouds
- Experience with Kubernetes, Ceph, and software automation
- Understanding of Python and Bash scripting, with troubleshooting skills
- Fluent written and spoken English
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- High motivation, ability to multi-task, and reliably follow-up on commitments
- Interest in customer-facing engagement, including pitching, demonstrating, and understanding customer environment and needs
- Interest in new technologies like LXD, Juju, and Snaps
- Ability to travel globally up to 30% of the time
- Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, or a related technical field
- Support various alliances and partners of Canonical to adopt products and technologies, help business leaders define joint go-to-market programs from a technical standpoint
- Architect cloud infrastructure solutions such as Kubernetes, Kubeflow, OpenStack, Ceph, and Spark either On-Premises or in Public Cloud AWS, Azure, Google Cloud
- Architect and integrate popular open source software such as PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Kafka, Cassandra, and NGINX
- Help partners to offer and architect joint solutions utilizing Canonical’s technologies on top of public clouds and in data centers
- Design and publish joint Reference Architectures and perform technical validations with various partners
- Prepare and run onboarding sessions and workshops with partner teams to promote Canonical products and solutions
