Job Description
This position involves leading the design and coordination of plumbing, fire protection, and HVAC systems for large-scale buildings, providing technical guidance to team members, overseeing project development from schematic to construction phases, and ensuring compliance with standards and client requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and oversee complex plumbing, fire protection, and HVAC systems for large-scale buildings.
- Prepare Revit BIM models of construction drawings from schematic design to construction administration.
- Specify equipment such as water heaters, plumbing fixtures, and pumping equipment.
- Review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
- Lead or participate in value engineering sessions to improve project design and efficiency.
- Conduct site visits to verify conditions and observe construction progress.
- Provide technical leadership and mentorship to design team members.
- Coordinate with clients, architects, and construction teams to ensure project alignment and budget adherence.
- Respond to RFIs, review change orders, and assist in the preparation of construction documents.
- Participate in or lead quality assurance and quality control processes.
Requirements
- Minimum of 8 years of related experience in mechanical engineering or a related field.
- Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical or Fire Protection Engineering (FPE) in the United States.
- Strong knowledge of Life Safety Codes.
- Experience in performing complex design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for plumbing and fire protection systems for large-scale buildings.
- Ability to work independently in all Mechanical disciplines with no oversight or guidance.
- Experience in preparing Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings for plumbing and fire protection systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings.
- Experience in performing Revit BIM modeling of HVAC systems as necessary.
- Ability to specify equipment such as water heaters, plumbing fixtures, water softeners, and pumping equipment.
- Experience reviewing and accepting shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
- Experience conducting site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress, including physical walk-through of sites.
- Ability to attend and participate in construction meetings and interface effectively with clients and project team members.
- Experience responding to RFIs and reviewing change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
- Experience conducting job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress.
- Ability to lead or participate in value engineering sessions with Architectural Engineering teams.
- Experience in conducting staff development activities including work planning, budget development, and scheduling in conjunction with the Project Manager.
- Ability to prepare and review construction documents and participate in QAQC processes, including serving as an independent reviewer.
- Experience in overseeing, guiding, mentoring, and providing technical leadership to designers and engineering team members.
- Ability to review and accept shop drawings for compliance with project specifications and contract documents.
- Experience in interface effectively with clients and members of the design team, including attending Owner, Architect, Construction Administration (OAC) meetings with an understanding of project budget.
- Experience in participating or leading value engineering sessions and recommending process improvements to enhance quality and coordination.
- Physical ability to perform site visits that may require a physical walk-through of the site.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience in computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus.
