Job Description
This position involves leading the design and oversight of HVAC systems for large-scale buildings, including project management, technical leadership, modeling, and coordination with clients and teams, within a multidisciplinary engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform and direct complex HVAC system design, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for large-scale buildings.
- Independently work across Mechanical disciplines and assist with Plumbing and Fire Protection designs as needed.
- Oversee, mentor, and provide technical leadership to design staff and engineering team.
- Prepare Revit BIM models of construction drawings for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.
- Specify mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units.
- Review and approve shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
- Interface with clients and project team members, including attending meetings and managing project budgets.
- Participate in value engineering sessions and recommend process improvements.
- Conduct site visits to verify conditions, observe construction progress, and ensure compliance.
- Respond to RFIs, review change orders, and assist in the preparation of construction documents.
- Lead or participate in staff development, work planning, and scheduling activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering required.
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program preferred.
- Minimum of 8 years of related experience required.
- Current PE (Professional Engineer) license in the United States preferred.
- LEED accreditation preferred.
- Strong knowledge of Life Safety Codes.
- Experience in computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus required.
- Ability to work independently in all Mechanical disciplines with no oversight or guidance.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be a critical thinker and highly analytical.
- Must have the ability to engage effectively with clients.
- Must be a fully qualified professional able to perform work with a high degree of latitude, with some ambiguity in work.
- Able to effectively handle multiple projects.
- Physical ability to conduct site visits, including walking through construction sites to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress.
