Job Description
This position is a senior-level mechanical engineering role leading design, review, and coordination of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for large-scale construction projects across various sectors, providing technical leadership, client interface, and project management oversight.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform and direct complex HVAC system design, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for large-scale buildings.
- Independently handle all Mechanical disciplines and assist with Plumbing and Fire Protection designs as needed.
- Interface with clients and design team members to ensure project requirements are met.
- Serve as QAQC reviewer and oversee technical quality of engineering work.
- Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and guidance to designers and engineering staff.
- Develop and review Revit BIM models for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems throughout project phases.
- Review and approve shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
- Participate in project meetings, including Owner, Architect, and Construction Administration meetings, focusing on project budget and progress.
- Lead or participate in value engineering sessions to optimize project design and costs.
- Conduct site visits to verify conditions, observe construction progress, and ensure compliance with design intent.
Requirements
- Minimum of 10 years of related experience in mechanical engineering.
- Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical Engineering in the United States.
- Strong knowledge of Life Safety Codes.
- Advanced knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and practices.
- Ability to serve in QAQC process and as an independent reviewer.
- Must be a critical thinker and highly analytical.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong ability to interface effectively with clients and members of the design team.
- Able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously.
- Experience in computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus.
- Ability to perform complex design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for HVAC systems for large-scale buildings.
- Ability to prepare Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings of HVAC systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings.
- Ability to perform Revit BIM modeling for plumbing and fire protection systems as necessary.
- Experience reviewing and accepting shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
- Experience conducting site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress.
- Ability to attend and participate in construction meetings and owner, architect, and construction administration meetings with an understanding of project budget.
- Experience participating or leading value engineering sessions with architectural and engineering teams.
- Experience responding to RFIs and reviewing change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
- Ability to oversee, guide, mentor, and provide technical leadership to designers and engineering team members.
- Experience developing and presenting annual performance reviews for staff.
- Experience conducting staff development activities including work planning, budget development, and scheduling in conjunction with the Project Manager.
- Ability to represent the company in project activities, business development, and marketing activities.
- Must be able to perform work with a high degree of latitude, with some ambiguity in work.
