Job Description

A senior mechanical engineer responsible for designing, reviewing, and leading HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for large-scale buildings, providing technical leadership, client interface, and project management within a multidisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform and direct complex design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for HVAC systems in large-scale buildings.
  • Work independently across all Mechanical disciplines and assist with Plumbing and Fire Protection designs as needed.
  • Interface effectively with clients and the design team, including attending meetings and managing project budgets.
  • Serve as a technical leader, overseeing, mentoring, and guiding designers and engineering staff.
  • Prepare Revit BIM models of construction drawings for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems from schematic to construction phases.
  • Review and accept shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
  • Conduct site visits to verify conditions, observe construction progress, and participate in construction meetings.
  • Respond to RFIs and review change orders during the construction documentation process.
  • Lead or participate in value engineering sessions to improve project outcomes and processes.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 10 years of related experience in mechanical engineering.
  • Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in the United States.
  • Strong knowledge of Life Safety Codes.
  • Advanced knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and practices.
  • Ability to serve in QAQC process and as an independent reviewer.
  • Must be a critical thinker and highly analytical.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong ability to interface effectively with clients and members of the design team.
  • Able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Experience in computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus.
  • Ability to perform complex design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for HVAC systems for large-scale buildings.
  • Ability to work independently in all Mechanical disciplines with no oversight or guidance.
  • Experience in preparing Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings of HVAC systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings.
  • Experience in performing Revit BIM modeling for plumbing and fire protection systems as necessary.
  • Experience in reviewing and accepting shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
  • Ability to interface effectively with clients and project team members and attend Owner, Architect, Construction Administration (OAC) meetings with an understanding of project budget.
  • Experience participating or leading value engineering sessions with Architectural Engineering teams.
  • Ability to recommend improvements to standards and processes to enhance quality, coordination, and streamline production efforts.
  • Experience conducting staff development activities including work planning, budget development, and scheduling in conjunction with the Project Manager.
  • Ability to respond to RFIs and review change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
  • Experience conducting job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress, including physical site walk-throughs.
  • Ability to attend and participate in construction meetings.
  • Willingness to perform site visits that require physical walk-through of the site.
  • Ability to represent the company in project activities and in business development and marketing activities.
  • Must be willing to serve on internal and/or professional committees as required.
