A senior mechanical engineer responsible for designing, reviewing, and leading HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems for large-scale buildings, providing technical leadership, client interface, and project management within a multidisciplinary team.
Key Responsibilities
Perform and direct complex design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for HVAC systems in large-scale buildings.
Work independently across all Mechanical disciplines and assist with Plumbing and Fire Protection designs as needed.
Interface effectively with clients and the design team, including attending meetings and managing project budgets.
Serve as a technical leader, overseeing, mentoring, and guiding designers and engineering staff.
Prepare Revit BIM models of construction drawings for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems from schematic to construction phases.
Review and accept shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
Conduct site visits to verify conditions, observe construction progress, and participate in construction meetings.
Respond to RFIs and review change orders during the construction documentation process.
Lead or participate in value engineering sessions to improve project outcomes and processes.
Requirements
Minimum of 10 years of related experience in mechanical engineering.
Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in the United States.
Strong knowledge of Life Safety Codes.
Advanced knowledge of mechanical engineering principles and practices.
Ability to serve in QAQC process and as an independent reviewer.
Must be a critical thinker and highly analytical.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong ability to interface effectively with clients and members of the design team.
Able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Experience in computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus.
Ability to perform complex design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for HVAC systems for large-scale buildings.
Ability to work independently in all Mechanical disciplines with no oversight or guidance.
Experience in preparing Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings of HVAC systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings.
Experience in performing Revit BIM modeling for plumbing and fire protection systems as necessary.
Experience in reviewing and accepting shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
Ability to interface effectively with clients and project team members and attend Owner, Architect, Construction Administration (OAC) meetings with an understanding of project budget.
Experience participating or leading value engineering sessions with Architectural Engineering teams.
Ability to recommend improvements to standards and processes to enhance quality, coordination, and streamline production efforts.
Experience conducting staff development activities including work planning, budget development, and scheduling in conjunction with the Project Manager.
Ability to respond to RFIs and review change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
Experience conducting job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress, including physical site walk-throughs.
Ability to attend and participate in construction meetings.
Willingness to perform site visits that require physical walk-through of the site.
Ability to represent the company in project activities and in business development and marketing activities.
Must be willing to serve on internal and/or professional committees as required.
