Job Description

This position involves leading the design and technical oversight of HVAC systems for large-scale buildings, including modeling, equipment specification, and project management, within a multidisciplinary engineering team. The role also includes client interaction, site visits, staff mentorship, and contributing to project development and quality assurance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and oversee HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for large-scale buildings
  • Independently perform all Mechanical discipline work and assist with Plumbing and Fire Protection designs as needed
  • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to design and engineering staff
  • Develop and review construction drawings using Revit BIM modeling from schematic to construction phases
  • Specify mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units
  • Review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents
  • Participate in client and project team meetings, including Owner, Architect, and Construction Administration meetings
  • Conduct site visits to verify conditions and observe construction progress
  • Respond to RFIs and review change orders during construction document preparation
  • Lead or participate in value engineering sessions to improve project efficiency and quality

Requirements

  • Minimum of 8 years of related experience in mechanical engineering design and project execution.
  • Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical Engineering in the United States.
  • Strong knowledge of Life Safety Codes.
  • Ability to work independently in all Mechanical disciplines with no oversight or guidance.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be a critical thinker and highly analytical.
  • Ability to engage effectively with clients.
  • Fully qualified professional able to perform work with a high degree of latitude, with some ambiguity in work.
  • Experience in computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus.
  • Experience in performing and directing complex design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for HVAC systems for large-scale buildings.
  • Ability to prepare Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings of HVAC systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings as required.
  • Ability to perform Revit BIM modeling for plumbing and fire protection systems as necessary.
  • Ability to specify mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units.
  • Experience reviewing and accepting shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
  • Experience conducting job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress.
  • Ability to attend and participate in construction meetings, including site visits that may require physical walk-through of the site.
  • Experience responding to RFIs and reviewing change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
  • Experience participating or leading value engineering sessions with Architectural Engineering teams.
  • Experience conducting staff development activities including work planning, budget development, and scheduling in conjunction with the Project Manager.
  • Ability to interface effectively with clients and members of the design team.
  • Experience overseeing, guiding, mentoring, and providing technical leadership to designers and engineering team members.
  • Experience reviewing and accepting shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
  • Ability to interface effectively with clients and project team members, including attending Owner, Architect, Construction Administration (OAC) meetings with an understanding of project budget.
  • Physical ability to conduct site visits, including walking through construction sites.
  • Must complete mandatory compliance training and adhere to internal policies and Code of Conduct as a condition of employment.
