This position involves leading the design and oversight of HVAC systems for large-scale buildings, including modeling, equipment specification, and coordination with project teams, while providing technical leadership and ensuring project quality and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Design and oversee HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for large-scale buildings
Perform and lead complex Mechanical design tasks independently, including plumbing and fire protection as needed
Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and oversee work of junior staff and designers
Prepare Revit BIM models for construction drawings of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems
Specify mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units
Review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents
Participate in project meetings, including owner, architect, and construction administration meetings
Conduct site visits to verify conditions and observe construction progress
Respond to RFIs and review change orders during construction
Lead or participate in value engineering sessions to improve project design and efficiency
Requirements
Minimum of 8 years of related experience in mechanical engineering, HVAC design, or similar field.
Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in the United States.
Strong knowledge of Life Safety Codes.
Ability to work independently in all Mechanical disciplines with no oversight or guidance.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Must be a critical thinker and highly analytical.
Ability to engage effectively with clients.
Fully qualified professional capable of performing work with a high degree of latitude, including some ambiguity in work.
Experience in computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus.
Ability to perform complex design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for HVAC systems for large-scale buildings.
Ability to oversee, guide, mentor, and provide technical leadership to designers and engineering team.
Experience in preparing Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings for HVAC systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings.
Experience in performing Revit BIM modeling for plumbing and fire protection systems as necessary.
Ability to specify mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units.
Experience reviewing and accepting shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
Ability to conduct job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress, including physical walk-throughs.
Experience attending and participating in construction meetings.
Ability to respond to RFIs and review change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
Experience conducting staff development activities including work planning, budget development, and scheduling in conjunction with the Project Manager.
Ability to interface effectively with clients and members of the design team, including attending Owner, Architect, Construction Administration (OAC) meetings with an understanding of project budget.
Experience participating or leading value engineering sessions with Architectural and Engineering teams.
Ability to review and accept shop drawings and ensure compliance with project specifications and contract documents.
Experience conducting site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress.
Willingness to perform other duties as assigned.
Must complete mandatory compliance training and adhere to internal policies and Code of Conduct as a condition of employment.
