This position involves leading the design and oversight of HVAC systems for large-scale buildings, including modeling, equipment selection, and coordination with project teams, while providing technical guidance and ensuring project quality and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Design and oversee HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for large-scale buildings
Perform and lead complex Mechanical design tasks independently
Assist with Plumbing and Fire Protection system designs as needed
Provide technical leadership, mentorship, and oversee work of junior staff
Review and approve shop drawings for compliance with specifications
Create Revit BIM models for construction drawings of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems
Specify mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units
Participate in client meetings, design reviews, and construction meetings
Conduct site visits to verify conditions and observe construction progress
Respond to RFIs and review change orders during construction
Lead or participate in value engineering sessions
Contribute to quality assurance and control processes
Requirements
Minimum of 8 years of related experience in mechanical engineering or HVAC design.
Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in the United States.
Strong knowledge of Life Safety Codes.
Ability to work independently in all Mechanical disciplines with no oversight or guidance.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Must be a critical thinker and highly analytical.
Must have the ability to engage effectively with clients.
Must be a fully qualified professional able to perform work with a high degree of latitude, with some ambiguity in work.
Able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously.
Experience in computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus.
Experience performing and directing complex design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for HVAC systems for large-scale buildings.
Experience preparing Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings of HVAC systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings.
Experience specifying mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units.
Experience reviewing and accepting shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
Experience conducting job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress.
Experience attending and participating in construction meetings, including site walk-throughs.
Experience responding to RFIs and reviewing change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
Experience leading or participating in value engineering sessions with Architectural Engineering teams.
Experience conducting staff development activities including work planning, budget development, and scheduling in conjunction with the Project Manager.
Experience interfacing effectively with clients and members of the project team.
Experience in interface with Energy Model software related to engineering complexities.
Experience reviewing and accepting shop drawings for plumbing and fire protection systems (as necessary).
