Job Description

This position involves designing plumbing and fire protection systems for various building projects, preparing calculations and drawings, reviewing specifications, and collaborating with clients and project teams, with opportunities for leadership and site visits.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design plumbing and fire protection systems for building projects.
  • Prepare calculations and production drawings for plumbing and fire protection systems.
  • Specify equipment such as sprinklers, sewerage, and medical gas systems.
  • Review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
  • Interface with clients and project team members during meetings and site visits.
  • Conduct field site visits during construction to monitor project progress.
  • Research and respond to emergent technical issues as needed.
  • Participate or lead value engineering sessions with the architectural and engineering team.
  • Mentor and direct activities of less experienced staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering required.
  • Minimum of 4 years of related experience required.
  • Experience in designing piping and equipment selection for plumbing and fire protection systems for building design, including performing calculations with supervisory review, preparing production drawings from schematic to construction phases, and editing specifications.
  • Ability to specify plumbing and fire protection equipment such as sprinkler, sewerage, and medical gas systems.
  • Experience reviewing shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
  • Proficiency in interface with clients and project team members by attending Owner, Architect, Construction Administration (OAC) meetings in conjunction with project budget.
  • Willingness to independently research as needed and respond to emergent issues.
  • Ability to participate or lead value engineering sessions with Architectural Engineering team.
  • Experience conducting staff development activities, including mentoring and training presentations, and potentially directing activities of less experienced staff.
  • Ability to conduct field site visits during the construction phase, including physically walking through the site independently.
  • Willingness to perform overtime work and travel as required.
  • Experience using computer applications for engineering design programs, specifically Revit.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be able to effectively handle multiple projects simultaneously.
