Job Description

This position involves designing and managing plumbing, fire protection, and HVAC systems for various construction projects, including drafting, equipment selection, site visits, and client coordination, within a multidisciplinary engineering team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and specify ductwork, piping, and equipment for plumbing and fire protection systems.
  • Assist with HVAC system design as needed.
  • Supervise or manage projects within the mechanical discipline, including monitoring progress and budgets.
  • Create Revit BIM models of construction drawings for plumbing, fire protection, and HVAC systems.
  • Review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
  • Specify mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units.
  • Conduct site visits to verify conditions and observe construction progress.
  • Participate in construction meetings and coordinate work activities with project team members.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 6 years of related experience in mechanical design, project management, or engineering roles.
  • Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical or Fire Protection Engineering (FPE) in the United States.
  • Proficiency in Revit BIM modeling for construction drawings of plumbing, fire protection systems, and HVAC systems as necessary.
  • Experience in designing and specifying mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units.
  • Ability to independently perform and direct design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for plumbing and fire protection systems on assigned projects.
  • Experience reviewing shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
  • Ability to interface effectively with clients and project team members, including attending Owner, Architect, and Construction Administration (OAC) meetings with an understanding of project budget considerations.
  • Experience responding to RFIs and reviewing change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
  • Ability to conduct job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress, including physical walk-throughs of sites.
  • Experience attending and participating in construction meetings.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience using computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus.
  • Ability to handle multiple projects effectively.
  • Willingness to perform other duties as assigned as part of the role.
