Job Description
This position involves designing and managing plumbing, fire protection, and HVAC systems for various construction projects, including drafting, equipment selection, site visits, and client coordination, within a multidisciplinary engineering team.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and direct plumbing and fire protection systems, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection.
- Assist with HVAC system design as needed.
- Supervise or manage projects within the mechanical discipline, monitoring progress and budget.
- Create Revit BIM models of construction drawings for plumbing, fire protection, and HVAC systems.
- Review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
- Specify mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units.
- Conduct site visits to verify conditions and observe construction progress.
- Participate in construction meetings and respond to RFIs and change orders.
Requirements
- Minimum of 6 years of related experience required.
- Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical or Fire Protection Engineering (FPE) in the United States required.
- Experience in designing and directing the design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for plumbing and fire protection systems independently on assigned projects.
- Ability to assist with HVAC designs as necessary.
- Experience in supervising or providing project management direction within the mechanical discipline, including monitoring project progress and project budget.
- Proficiency in preparing Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings of plumbing and fire protection systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings.
- Ability to perform Revit BIM modeling for HVAC systems as necessary.
- Experience in editing specifications relating to existing or new projects.
- Ability to independently research as needed and respond to emergent issues.
- Experience in specifying mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units.
- Ability to review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
- Effective interface and communication with clients and project team members, including attending Owner, Architect, and Construction Administration (OAC) meetings with an understanding of project budget.
- Experience in responding to RFIs and reviewing change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
- Ability to conduct job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress, including physical walk-throughs of sites.
- Willingness to participate in construction meetings and site visits.
- Ability to coordinate work activities on specific projects with several persons of various capability levels.
- Experience in participating in business development and marketing activities.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency in computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus.
