Job Description

This position involves designing plumbing and fire protection systems for various building projects, preparing calculations and drawings, reviewing specifications and shop drawings, and collaborating with clients and project teams. The role also includes site visits, mentoring staff, and participating in project management activities.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design plumbing and fire protection systems for building projects, including equipment selection and calculations.
  • Prepare production drawings from schematic to construction phases.
  • Review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
  • Specify plumbing and fire protection equipment such as sprinklers, sewerage, and medical gas systems.
  • Interface with clients and project team members during meetings and project coordination.
  • Conduct field site visits during construction to monitor project progress and compliance.
  • Research and respond to emergent technical issues as needed.
  • Lead or participate in value engineering sessions with the architectural and engineering team.
  • Mentor and direct activities of less experienced staff.

Requirements

  • Current PE or FPE license in the United States required.
  • Minimum of 4 years of related experience required.
  • Experience in designing plumbing and fire protection systems, including performing designs and equipment selection for building projects.
  • Ability to independently perform designs of piping and equipment selection for plumbing and fire protection systems for building design, including smaller less technical projects requiring supervision of a senior engineer for complex projects.
  • Ability to prepare calculations using correct parameters with supervisory review.
  • Ability to prepare production drawings of plumbing and fire protection systems from schematic to construction design phases.
  • Ability to edit specifications relating to existing or new projects.
  • Ability to specify plumbing and fire protection equipment such as sprinkler, sewerage, and medical gas systems.
  • Experience in reviewing shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
  • Effective interface with clients and project team members, including attending Owner, Architect, Construction Administration (OAC) meetings in conjunction with project budget.
  • Willingness to conduct field site visits during the construction phase, including physically walking through the site independently.
  • Willingness to perform overtime work and travel as required.
  • Experience with computer applications for engineering design programs, specifically Revit.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
