Job Description
This position involves designing plumbing and fire protection systems for various building projects, preparing calculations and drawings, reviewing specifications, and collaborating with clients and project teams. The role also includes site visits, mentoring staff, and participating in project management activities.
Key Responsibilities
- Design plumbing and fire protection systems for building projects
- Prepare calculations and production drawings for plumbing and fire protection systems
- Specify equipment such as sprinklers, sewerage, and medical gas systems
- Review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents
- Interface with clients and project team members during meetings and project phases
- Conduct field site visits during construction to monitor progress and compliance
- Research and respond to emergent technical issues as needed
- Participate or lead value engineering sessions with the architectural and engineering team
- Mentor and direct activities of less experienced staff
Requirements
- Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in Mechanical or Fire Protection Engineering (FPE) in the United States is required.
- Minimum of 4 years of related experience in engineering design, piping, and equipment selection for plumbing and fire protection systems.
- Experience in designing plumbing and fire protection systems, including sprinkler, sewerage, and medical gas systems.
- Ability to independently perform designs of piping and equipment selection for plumbing and fire protection systems for building design, including preparing calculations with supervisory review.
- Experience preparing production drawings of plumbing and fire protection systems from schematic to construction design phases.
- Ability to edit specifications relating to existing or new projects.
- Experience reviewing shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
- Proficiency in specifying plumbing and fire protection equipment such as sprinkler, sewerage, and medical gas systems.
- Experience conducting field site visits during construction, including physically walking through the site independently.
- Willingness to perform overtime work and travel as required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Experience in computer applications for engineering design programs, specifically Revit.
