Job Description
This senior leadership role involves developing and executing strategic plans to grow and lead the San Diego and Irvine offices of CannonDesign, focusing on business development, client engagement, fostering a collaborative and inclusive design culture, and representing the firm's Living-Centered Design ethos.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and lead a high-performance, diverse, and inclusive leadership team for the San Diego and Irvine offices.
- Create and implement a strategic business plan to support office growth, branding, and client engagement.
- Partner with leaders to grow the office's top-line revenue and achieve specific financial targets.
- Identify, assess, and develop client leadership to enhance client engagement and satisfaction.
- Evaluate and address senior talent needs to build a strong leadership team capable of expanding impact and growth.
- Champion best practices in project management, risk management, and office profitability.
- Represent the office in firm-wide communications, external branding, and community engagement activities.
- Foster a design-focused culture emphasizing diversity, equity, inclusion, and innovation.
- Allocate time effectively among strategic planning, client engagement, and office leadership activities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (Master's degree preferred).
- 15 years minimum experience with a proven track record of business development success and top-line growth.
- Proven ability to develop and lead a high-performance, diverse, and inclusive leadership team for the San Diego and Irvine California offices of CannonDesign.
- Experience in developing and implementing a strategic business plan for an office, including strategies for growth, branding, and client engagement.
- Ability to engage and partner with Office and Market Leaders to develop new business opportunities and achieve a minimum office growth of 10% year over year.
- Experience in identifying, assessing, and evaluating Client Leaders and implementing client engagement processes, including providing mentorship and training to advance client leadership practices.
- Ability to evaluate and address senior talent needs to build a strong leadership team capable of expanding impact and growth.
- Experience in establishing actions to implement a business plan to grow top line revenue, optimize collaboration, expand markets and services, and support office growth targets, including achieving a personal top line goal of $3.0 million per year.
- Experience in championing and practicing effective project management, risk management, process improvement, and office profitability in collaboration with Business Practice Leaders.
- Effective communication skills to represent office leadership and staff in firm-wide meetings, conferences, and internal communication processes.
- Ability to dedicate approximately 45% of work time to activities that advance the firm's brand and develop new business opportunities, 30% to engaging with clients on billable project work, and 15% to office leadership activities such as strategy development, practice and market building, recruiting, and staff development.
- Demonstrated ability to champion the firm's Living-Centered Design ethos and promote an ethical, collaborative, innovative, and entrepreneurial culture.
- Sound approach to risk management and mitigation.
- Business acumen with the ability to execute strategic initiatives effectively.
- Willingness and ability to travel as required.
- Effective leadership skills including energizing, inspiring, motivating, and developing high-performing teams.
- Ability to foster a design-focused culture that emphasizes diversity, equity, inclusion, and innovation.
- Ability to identify and address senior talent needs and work with HR and leadership to mentor and develop future leaders.
- Ability to develop and execute internal communication processes to foster collaboration and keep staff informed.
