Job Description
This position involves designing and managing HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection, for various construction projects, while collaborating with clients and project teams, and overseeing project execution from schematic design to construction administration.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and specify HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection.
- Perform load calculations, energy modeling, and create construction drawings using Revit BIM.
- Assist with plumbing and fire protection system design as needed.
- Review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
- Conduct site visits to verify conditions and observe construction progress.
- Coordinate work activities with project team members and participate in meetings.
- Respond to RFIs, review change orders, and support construction administration.
Requirements
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering required.
- Bachelor or Master’s degree in Engineering from an ABET accredited program preferred.
- Minimum of 6 years of related experience required.
- Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in the United States preferred.
- LEED accreditation preferred.
- Must possess a working knowledge and experience in engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus, and be able to effectively handle multiple projects.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to independently perform and direct design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for HVAC systems on assigned projects.
- Ability to calculate heating and cooling loads, and design ductwork and piping using energy modeling software.
- Ability to prepare Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings of HVAC systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings.
- Ability to perform Revit BIM modeling for plumbing and fire protection systems as necessary.
- Ability to review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
- Ability to interface effectively with clients and project team members, attend Owner, Architect, Construction Administration (OAC) meetings, and respond to RFIs and review change orders.
- Ability to conduct job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress, including physical walk-throughs.
- Willingness to participate in construction meetings and coordinate work activities with various team members.
- Must be able to specify mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units.
- Must be able to edit specifications relating to existing or new projects.
- Must be able to independently research issues as they arise and respond to emergent issues.
