This position involves leading the design and oversight of HVAC systems for large-scale buildings, including modeling, equipment specification, and coordination with project teams, while providing technical leadership and ensuring project quality and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
Design and oversee HVAC systems, including ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for large-scale buildings.
Perform independent mechanical design work across disciplines, with occasional assistance in plumbing and fire protection.
Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship to design team members.
Develop and review construction drawings using Revit BIM modeling from schematic to construction phases.
Specify mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units.
Review shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
Participate in client and project team meetings, including construction administration and owner meetings.
Conduct site visits to verify conditions and observe construction progress.
Lead or participate in value engineering sessions to improve project design and efficiency.
Respond to RFIs, review change orders, and assist in the preparation of construction documents.
Requirements
Minimum of 8 years of related experience in mechanical engineering or HVAC design.
Current Professional Engineer (PE) license in the United States.
Strong knowledge of Life Safety Codes.
Ability to work independently in all Mechanical disciplines with no oversight or guidance.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Must be a critical thinker and highly analytical.
Ability to engage effectively with clients.
Fully qualified professional capable of performing work with a high degree of latitude, including some ambiguity in work.
Experience in computer applications for engineering design programs such as Revit, Trane Trace, or Trane 3D Plus.
Experience in performing and directing complex design of ductwork, piping, and equipment selection for HVAC systems for large-scale buildings.
Ability to prepare Revit BIM modeling of construction drawings of HVAC systems from schematic design to construction administration phases, including layout, sketches, and detail drawings.
Ability to perform Revit BIM modeling for plumbing and fire protection systems as necessary.
Experience specifying mechanical equipment such as boilers, chillers, and air handling units.
Experience reviewing and accepting shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
Experience conducting job site visits to verify existing conditions and observe construction progress, including physical site walk-throughs.
Ability to attend and participate in construction meetings and interface effectively with clients and project team members.
Experience responding to RFIs and reviewing change orders in the preparation of construction documents.
Experience participating in or leading value engineering sessions with Architectural Engineering teams.
Experience conducting staff development activities including work planning, budget development, and scheduling in conjunction with the Project Manager.
Ability to oversee, guide, mentor, and provide technical leadership to designers and engineering team members.
Experience in overseeing the use of engineering complexities related to Energy Model software.
Ability to review and accept shop drawings for compliance with specifications and contract documents.
Ability to represent the company in project activities and business development and marketing activities.
Physical ability to conduct site visits, which may require walking through construction sites.
