Job Description
The Staff Instrumentation Engineer designs and develops process instrumentation solutions, including control valves and automated valves, for industrial projects. They lead instrumentation projects, collaborate with clients and other disciplines, and ensure compliance with standards and site requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Review client requirements and standards for process instrumentation
- Develop instrumentation solutions including detailed designs, specifications, and sizing
- Lead instrumentation projects and prepare project scope of work
- Attend client technical meetings and field walk-downs
- Perform selection and sizing of process instrumentation
- Generate instrumentation data, sheets, calculations, loop drawings, and P&IDs
- Coordinate with piping group for in-line instrumentation piping designs and control valve stations
Requirements
- BSc in Instrument, Mechanical, Electrical or Chemical Engineering
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in instrumentation engineering
- Must be experienced with DCS and PLC systems
- Knowledge of ISA, API, and ASME instrumentation standards
- Working knowledge of SPI and instrument vendors sizing software
- Management experience leading small teams and working with other disciplines
- Strong organizational, written, and verbal communication skills
- Ability to review client requirements and standards for new or updated process instrumentation
- Ability to develop instrumentation solutions including detailed designs, specifications, and sizing of process instrumentation such as control valves and on/off automated valves
- Ability to perform selection and sizing of process instrumentation
- Ability to generate instrumentation data, sheets, instrument sizing calculations, loop drawings, installation details, instrument lists, DCS PLC I/O lists, and P&ID drawings
- Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
- Prior to deployment on any field assignment, must meet all client-specific site requirements, including physical mobility on the ground and at heights, ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs, work at heights, climb ladders and stairways, and work off platforms using fall protection
- Must be able to work in all weather conditions including heat, rain, cold, and wind while wearing appropriate PPE such as hard hats, safety glasses, goggles, ear plugs, masks, respirators, hi-vis safety vests, leather gloves, and steel-toed work boots
- May be required to work in confined spaces
- May be required to adhere to a client’s random drug testing program prior to entering their site
- May be required to meet a client’s facial hair safety policy prior to entering their site
