Job Description

The role involves managing the development of utility-scale solar projects, including project management, economic analysis, permitting, contract negotiation, and stakeholder engagement to support the growth of renewable energy infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and manage utility-scale solar photovoltaic projects from greenfield development through construction and operation.
  • Engage community, local, and state institutions to garner project support.
  • Prepare and manage permit applications across multiple jurisdictions.
  • Manage contractors, vendors, and consultants to ensure project timelines and budgets are met.
  • Negotiate tax abatements, land use agreements, mitigation settlements, and other project-related agreements.
  • Negotiate power purchase agreements (PPAs) with utilities and energy off-takers.
  • Collaborate with finance teams on financial feasibility, evaluation, and analysis.
  • Assist with permitting and environmental compliance during project development and operation.

Requirements

  • Candidates must have 7-12 years of experience in the energy industry, specifically in energy infrastructure development.
  • Candidates must demonstrate sound industry knowledge related to utility-scale renewable power generation development and marketing.
  • Candidates must possess strong financial analysis skills and the ability to effectively communicate complex ideas.
  • Candidates must have a proven track record of driving projects forward in the energy sector.
  • Experience in greenfield development of utility-scale solar power generation facilities is required.
  • Ability to engage community, local, and state institutions for project support is required.
  • Experience in assisting with the preparation of permit applications for solar facilities across multiple local, state, and federal jurisdictions is required.
  • Experience managing contractors, vendors, and consultants to maintain project timeline and budget is required.
  • Ability to negotiate tax abatements, land use agreements, mitigation settlements, and various other agreements is required.
  • Experience negotiating Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) with utilities and other energy offtakers is required.
  • Ability to work with the finance department during financial feasibility analysis, evaluation, and financing is required.
  • Experience assisting with permitting and environmental compliance throughout the construction and operation of projects is required.
  • Extensive knowledge of the full-cycle of utility-scale renewable power generation development and marketing is required.
  • Extensive knowledge of interconnection, permitting, real estate, state and federal regulation, utility procurement goals, politics, and law impacting renewable energy project development in eastern energy markets is required.
  • Detailed understanding of the interconnection process, study process, contracting, utility requirements, financial obligations, and scope execution by utilities is required.
  • Solid understanding of economic drivers within the renewable energy business is required.
  • Ability to frame issues with context, analysis, recommendations, and risk-benefit tradeoffs in both written and verbal formats is required.
  • Ability to create control over costs, terms, and schedules of key project milestones dependent on external parties is required.
  • Strong understanding of project schedule relationships to prioritize resource allocation is required.
  • Highly resourceful with the ability to design processes for project milestone advancement and navigate key risks with little structure is required.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel (advanced level), Project, Word, PowerPoint, and Google Earth is required.
  • Independent self-starter capable of meeting deadlines and delivering quality work with minimal oversight is required.
  • Ability to recognize opportunities, evaluate risks in development, and communicate findings effectively is required.
  • Demonstrated ability to translate contracts and financing agreements into concise financial and economic analyses is required.
  • Ability to manage a large workload, support colleagues, prioritize tasks, and meet competing deadlines is required.
  • Detail-oriented with a strong sense of personal responsibility and ownership of work product is required.
  • Excellent personal organizational skills and pattern recognition skills are required.
