Job Description

The Aurora Driver Test and Evaluation Engineer will conduct hands-on testing and analysis of autonomous vehicle systems, ensuring safety, functionality, and integration of hardware and software components in real-world environments to support the deployment of self-driving technology.

Key Responsibilities

  • Establish and maintain a technical understanding of the integrated vehicle system, including hardware and software components.
  • Design, plan, and execute test scenarios in various operational environments.
  • Conduct hands-on testing and observation of autonomous vehicle systems at local and third-party facilities.
  • Analyze real-time test observations and recorded data to evaluate system performance.
  • Report formal test results, identifying potential product deficiencies to internal stakeholders.
  • Identify safety hazards during testing, assess risks, implement mitigations, and communicate residual risks.
  • Maintain familiarity with offline test environments to support comprehensive test coverage.

Requirements

  • Degree in Engineering, Robotics or a related field
  • Minimum 3 years of experience conducting hands-on test and evaluation of a highly-integrated, safety-critical product
  • Experience with the right side of the Systems Engineering V - increasing levels of verification and validation with an understanding of product operation and maintenance
  • Real-world experience with the application of risk management concepts
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity, evolving priorities and challenging problems
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Establishing and maintaining a technical understanding of the fully integrated product System-of-Systems that spans across software and hardware design
  • Collecting and/or generating artifacts primarily test or demonstration related artifacts that provide verification evidence for behavioral, functional and safety requirements at higher levels of integration
  • Thorough designing and planning of test scenarios that may be executed in a variety of operational environments
  • Safe and efficient hands-on test execution and observation in a dynamic vehicle
  • Timely analysis of both real-time test observations and recorded data
  • Diligent reporting of formal test results to various internal stakeholders, with a focus on characterizing potential product deficiencies
  • Identifying safety related hazards associated with elevated risk testing, assessing the initial risk, applying appropriate mitigations, and communicating the residual risk for acceptance or rejection
  • Establishing and maintaining familiarity with the increasingly capable suite of offline test environments at Aurora to support comprehensive and complementary test coverage

Base salary range of $126,000 - $181,000 per year
