Job Description
The Systems and Safety Engineer will define, validate, and ensure the safety of the sensing capabilities of Aurora's autonomous vehicle system, collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet safety and performance standards in a complex, safety-critical environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and validate sensing capabilities of the autonomous vehicle to ensure safety and performance
- Own the requirements definition, allocation, and impact analysis for sensing systems
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to elicit sensing requirements and system use cases
- Perform safety analyses such as HARA, FMEA, and STPA to assess risks related to sensing capabilities
- Develop and execute verification and validation activities for sensing systems
- Conduct data and kinematics analysis to support requirements and testing coverage
- Manage requirements, traceability, and tooling to support system development and safety standards
- Facilitate cross-functional development activities, including design reviews and documentation
- Develop and gain alignment on innovative approaches for systems and safety engineering
Requirements
- Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Aerospace Engineering, Computer Science, Robotics, or a related field
- 3 years of experience in systems engineering, safety engineering, or a related field
- Experience writing verifiable functional and non-functional requirements, preferably in autonomous systems
- Experience in a safety critical industry and software development standards, software safety fault hazard analysis, and requirements-driven software verification and validation strategies
- Proven ability to work in high-ambiguity environments with evolving priorities, while managing diverse stakeholders across software, product, and operations teams
- Excellent communication and presentation skills

Base salary range: $139,000 - $201,000 per year
