Job Description
The Senior Staff Software Engineer will lead performance engineering efforts to optimize system efficiency, latency, and throughput for Aurora's autonomous vehicle technology, focusing on systems-level programming, instrumentation, and collaboration across teams to ensure reliable and high-performance deployment in a fielded environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead cross-functional performance initiatives to identify and resolve systemic bottlenecks, improving system latency and throughput.
- Architect and implement advanced system instrumentation frameworks for deep visibility into OS-level performance metrics.
- Drive the technical strategy for C/C++ optimization and mentor junior engineers in high-performance systems programming.
- Collaborate with product and infrastructure teams to ensure performance is integrated throughout the product lifecycle.
- Analyze telemetry data from fielded environments to address performance regressions and optimize resource utilization.
Requirements
- 8-10 years of professional experience in systems-level programming
- Lead C C optimization and system instrumentation to improve latency and throughput
- Experience delivering and supporting a commercialized product in a fielded environment
- Hands-on expertise with modern OS-level instrumentation toolkits such as eBPF, perf, or Ftrace
- Proven track record of technical leadership for large-scale performance engineering projects within the autonomous vehicle or robotics industry (desirable but not mandatory)
- Deep familiarity with Linux kernel internals, memory management, and hardware-software co-design principles (desirable but not mandatory)
- Experience with automated performance regression testing suites (desirable but not mandatory)
- Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field with a focus on systems performance
Benefits & Perks
Compensation/salary range: $189,000.00 - $303,000.00 per year
Work environment: Hybrid work environment with in-office presence at least 3 days per week
