Job Description
The Staff Safety Analyst at Aurora is a technical leader responsible for conducting safety research, developing risk assessment models, and analyzing safety data to inform the company's self-driving vehicle safety strategies and communications.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the development of quantitative data analytics using sensor, system, and testing data to support safety assessments.
- Author and present technical safety analyses and findings to internal and external audiences.
- Design and automate data collection and analysis processes for safety programs.
- Extract insights from safety performance data to develop leading indicators and forecast future safety performance.
- Develop models for safety metrics, targets, and risk indicators.
- Model vehicle behaviors at system and subsystem levels to assess safety risks.
- Create dashboards and reports to communicate risk, safety rankings, and anomalies.
- Lead and mentor junior team members to foster professional growth.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent applicable technical experience.
- 7 years of progressive experience solving large-scale complex problems.
- Demonstrated experience in a safety related domain such as transportation, aerospace, robotics, or medical devices.
- Strong understanding of safety principles and risk assessment methodologies.
- Deep command of statistical methods, probabilistic modeling, and performing rapid exploratory data analysis.
- Expertise in programming languages such as Python and R.
- Adept at querying, analyzing, and visualizing large datasets.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex information to various audiences.
- Strong leadership skills, with the ability to provide guidance and mentorship.
- Ability to work independently, as part of a cross-functional team, or as a project lead.
