Job Description
The Staff Opto-Mechanical Designer at Aurora will work with a world-class R&D lidar team to design high-performance FMCW lidar systems, focusing on mechanical and opto-mechanical components, interface with electrical systems, and ensure durability in harsh environments, contributing to the development of advanced self-driving technology.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop opto-mechanical components for FMCW lidar systems
- Create detailed CAD models and 2D drawings for mechanical parts
- Design mechanical interfaces with electrical components such as PCBAs and sensors
- Develop components suitable for high-volume manufacturing processes
- Design for durability in harsh environments, including shock, vibration, and temperature cycling
- Troubleshoot hardware systems and perform root-cause analysis
- Participate in critical design reviews and document design decisions
Requirements
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical, Opto-Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
- At least 7 years of industry experience in Mechanical Engineering.
- At least 5 years of experience specifically in Opto-Mechanical design.
- Proficiency in CAD design, with Catia preferred but not required.
- Prior experience in creating 2D drawings using GDT (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing).
- Experience in designing mechanical parts that interface with electrical components such as PCBAs and sensors.
- Exposure to component design for high volume manufacturing processes including injection molding, diecasting, and stamping.
- Experience designing for harsh environments, including shock, vibration, and temperature cycling, with a focus on long-term durability.
- Experience in troubleshooting and root-cause analysis of hardware systems.
- Strong presentation and documentation skills for participating in critical design decisions.
- Willingness to travel within the US and abroad as required, typically 3-4 times a year.
Benefits & Perks
Base salary range: $181,000.00 - $290,000.00 per year
